    Finding your dental home

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommend establishing a dental home for your child by one year of age. The dental home is the ongoing relationship between the dentist and the patient, inclusive of all aspects of oral health care delivered in a comprehensive, continuously accessible, coordinated, and family-centered way. Children who have a dental home are more likely to receive appropriate preventative and routine oral health care.

    You are in great hands!

Hygenist Paula We want your child to have a positive and enjoyable first visit. Our dentist and team will explain all procedures and answer any questions to help your child adjust to the dental setting. We recommend parents refrain from using words around your child that might cause unnecessary fear, such as “needle”, “shot”, “hurt/pain”, “pull out”, “drill”, or “blood”. Our office makes a practice of using words that convey the same message, but are pleasant and non-frightening to the child..

We invite you to stay with your child during the initial examination. As your child gains more confidence and independence, we suggest you allow your child to accompany our staff through their dental appointments. We can establish a closer rapport with your child when you are not present.

However, if you choose, you are more than welcome to accompany your child to the treatment room. For the safety and privacy of all patients, we ask other family members who are not being treated remain in the reception room with a supervising adult.

Your child’s first visit is not only about our team getting to know them, but also about you and your child getting to know our team. In the time we spend together, we encourage you and your child to ask questions, express your concerns, and share with us anything you want us to know to help make their care as individual as they are.

Part of getting to know you and providing safe, personalized support involves reviewing their medical history. Certain medical conditions and medications and can influence treatment protocols – so you will be asked to provide a list of any medications and their dosages (including vitamins and supplements) that your child may be taking.
